Second round recording instructions:
With the outbreak of Coronavirus, Elie and I would like to try our own version of a virtual choir. The piece below is arranged and conducted by Elie Diaz. This is a brand new piece and we barely got a recording with us before we had to leave for break, it is attached in supplementary files for reference only. Files below contain sheet music a .wav audio practice piece and a video with the conductor/arranger Elie Diaz. Please record an audio or video file of you singing this piece and upload it to the file upload form below.
Recording #1 Track
How to record the file and make sure it is accepted:
1. Play the video and make sure to follow the conductor when recording, this is essential for timing!
2. Mute audio track when recording or put in earbuds
3. Limit background noise to a minimum
4. Submit as .wav or .mp3 (websites like this could work if needed to convert) - https://convertio.co/mp3-converter/
5. Submit with this naming convention: part_lastname_firstname - (Ex: Bass1_Ogilvie_Ryan)
Optional Recording Suggestions:
- Use headphone mics, not a computer mic. - they pick up less noise and the mic is at a constant distance from your mouth (unless you have a professional recording mic)
- Keep mic same distance from face at all times
- Avoid echoey spaces (ex: bathrooms or areas with a lot of tiles)
- Listen to your entire recording before sending it in
- Make sure your recording software is not attenuating your mic
Some issues we faced the first round
- Variable volume from mic distance variations
- Reverb from echoey room that is difficult to work with
- Sound cutting off halfway through (literally one recording did not have anything for the second half)
- Mic attenuation from software (make sure to listen, and if your software is doing this, turn it off, it is not usable otherwise)
Optional recording software: Playback_Recorder.zip
This time around I wanted to try a recording software to hopefully simplify recording and to more easier integrate into the mix. This software uses a batch file to open the video file and start playing and recording at the exact same time so the pieces will already be synced up. This is just an experiment this round so you don't need to use it if you don't want and it only works on windows for now. If it works well, I will try to make it work across platforms. Just download and click the batch file to run, please let me know if there are any issues.
Note: optional soloist part. If you would like to try out, indicate soloist on form. Please also submit your own part recording to be considered.

Supplementary Files for Practice <- Files for practice only, do not follow the first recording, as it may not match timing of conducting video
We have decided to take an iterative approach to mixing this together. This means that we will ask for a recording per stage in the project. The first one you will sing too with will just be a conducting video with midi audio. This one is expected to be rough, so don't worry too much about perfecting it. For the subsequent one you will sing with the mixed choir recording. The idea is that we will be able to improve by singing with each other virtually. we plan to iterate once meaning 2 recordings.
Please take some time this week to make a recording with your part. For the first recording we would like to give you a week so please submit the first recording by the end of the day March 25th. We will try to get the mixed group recording back in a couple days and have the second deadline for recording #2 on April 3rd.
